= Friday was away for one week.

= Friday shouted because a boat was coming towards the shore. There was a ship further out to sea.
3. What kind of ship was coming towards the island?
= An English ship was coming towards the island.
4. What doubt was there in Crusoe's mind?
= There was the doubt about the purpose of the English ship coming to the island in Crusoe's mind.

1. How many men were there in the boat?
= There were eleven men in the boat.
2. What did Friday say when he saw the English sailors?
= When he saw the English sailors, he said that the English men also used to eat their prisoners.
3. What happened to the boat when the tide went out?
= When the tide went out, the boat was left high and dry on the beach. The sailors tried their hardest to push it back into the water. They could not, because the boat was too heavy for them to move.
4. When would the tide come in?
= In ten hours' time, the tide would come in.
5. What would Crusoe do before the tide came in?
= Before the tide came in, Crusoe was determined to have a talk with those three prisoners.
