A.
1. How many canoes did Crusoe see?
= Crusoe saw five canoes.
2. How many savages were there?
= There were thirty savages.
3. What were they doing?
= They were dancing round a fire. While they were dancing, they were waving long sticks which they use for fighting.
4. What happened to the two prisoners?
= The savages struck on the head of one prisoner, he fell to the ground. The other prisoner was left standing by himself till they were ready to eat him. he seized that chance to run away straight towards Crusoe to save his dear life. And eventually Crusoe saved his life.
B.
1. How did Crusoe save the prisoner?
= Crusoe ran towards the two savages, he knocked one of them down with his gun. He did not want to shoot, because that would make a noise that would bring the other wild men, but when the second savage made a rush at him, he had to shoot him. He fell dead.
2. What frightened the prisoner?
= The sound of Crusoe's gun frightened the prisoner.
3. How did the savage show that he was Crusoe's slave?
= The savage knelt down and kissed the ground where Crusoe was standing. he laid his head on the ground and placed Crusoe's foot on it. By doing this, he showed that he was his slave and he was his master.
C.
1. Why was the savage astonished?
= The savage was astonished because Crusoe had killed a man when he was far away from him.
2. What did Crusoe do with the dead bodies?
= Crusoe buried the bodies in the sand.
3. How did Crusoe treat his new friend?
= Crusoe took his new friend to his tent. There he gave him water to drink and bread and raisins to eat. He made him lie down for he was very tired.
D.
1. Why did Crusoe call the savage "Friday"?
= Crusoe called the savage "Friday" because on that day he had saved his life.
2. What did he teach Friday?
= He taught Friday to call him "master' and to say "yes" and "no".
3. What did he give to him?
= He gave him some clothes to wear : trousers which he had brought from the ship, a coat made of goat-skin, and a cap made of rabbit-skin.
