1. Why did Friday shout?
= Friday shouted because three canoes had come to their shore.
2. Why was Friday "shaking with fright"?
= Friday was "shaking with fright" because he was always afraid that the savage would return. They would catch him, cut him to pieces and eat him.

1. What did Crusoe tell Friday?
= Crusoe told Friday not to be afraid. If they eat him, they would eat Crusoe as well. But they could not do so as Crusoe and Friday had guns with them.
2. What did he ask Friday to do?
= He asked Friday to take the guns out.

= Friday answered that the savages are many in number. So, they might not be face them.

= Crusoe saw twenty-one savages, two prisoners and three canoes from his watching-place.

= The savages were sitting round a fire, eating one of their prisoners. Another prisoner was tied up on the sand near them. They were going to eat him next.
3. What were the four savages going to do?
= The four savages got up and left the circle round the fire. They walked towards their prisoner. They began to untie him, ready to lead him to his death.
