E. Answer the following questions.
1. Explain what a chain of dependence is in nature.
= The natural environment has two components.
The abiotic, which includes non-living things - the land, water, air, climate and sunlight.
The biotic, which includes all living things - the biosphere. The biosphere has two types of living beings.
The producers - there make their own food directly from the environment using sunlight, air and water. Green plants are in this category.
The consumers - these cannot make their own food. They consume the food that the producers make. Human beings and animals are in this category.
Producers and consumers form a chain of dependence in nature called a food chain.
2. How do countries depend on each other? Give one example.
= Many countries in West Asia have rich reserves of petroleum, which is one of the main sources of energy. India, and many other countries, do not have sufficient petroleum for their needs. These countries import (buy) the petroleum they need from West Asian countries. Desert countries, like the countries of West Asia, are not able to grow all the food that they need for their people. For this reason, they import it from various other places.
Many countries import manufactured goods, like electronics or motor vehicles, from other countries such as China.
3. Name three types of local events that can have a wide impact. Explain any one, with an example.
= Three types of local events that can have a wide impact are - Events in nature, People and nature and Nature and people.
Nature and people :- Sometimes an event starts in nature and spreads to people. Chikungunya, an illness that causes fever and pain, affected monkeys and apes in Africa. It was first noticed in east Africa in the 1950s. However, as people began to travel more and more throughout the world, this painful illness has spread to other parts of the world too. A local illness gradually had a global impact.
4. What is the meaning of global warming?
= Global warming means an increase in the temperature of the earth's atmosphere. Scientists say this is caused by the increase of some gases present in the atmosphere, especially carbon dioxide.
5. Draw a diagram to explain how global warming happens.
=
6. Explain the impact of global warming on weather.
= Weather in many parts of the world is changing due to global warming. Instead of the usual patterns, the world is seeing extreme weather conditions. In many places summer is hotter, winter is much colder with heavy snowstorms, there is drought instead of rain or when it rains, the rain is heavy, causing terrible floods.
